A digital signature is a digital certificate that gives any document legal validity. There are different entities that can issue a digital certificate, for example the Mint and Stamp, where they can be easily obtained.
In the case of sworn translations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has certified that the use of digital signatures in sworn translations is valid.
However, the ministry specifies that the usual procedures must be maintained, i.e. certification, signature, stamp and photocopy of the original that has been translated.
Therefore, the digital signature implies that we maintain the format of the sworn translation, accompanying the translation with a photocopy of the original, signed and stamped by the sworn translator who is the author of the translation. However, we must remember that the full legal validity remains with the sworn translation on paper.
The sworn translation of a contract guarantees the accuracy and ensures that the content and meaning of the clauses and stipulations contained in the original are maintained and expressed in the same terms in the translated document, maintaining the objective and purpose of the same.
