Sworn translations work with official texts that require the stamp, signature and apostille of a sworn interpreter or translator in order to be considered valid before the public administration of a specific country or by a private entity that has previously requested them.

These documents are generally necessary to carry out formalities in different institutions, such as courts, consulates, universities, etc.

Translators authorised to translate official documents must have obtained the official title of sworn translator from the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which authorises them to attest to the veracity of the translations they provide.

How much does a sworn translation cost?

Each translator or agency has its own rates, however the final price of the translation can vary depending on several factors.

Generally each translator or agency has a price per word for each language combination (e.g. Spanish-English, €0.12), with the least frequent combinations being the most expensive.

With this price per word, once the words of the document to be translated are known, the cost of the translation can be calculated, plus the corresponding taxes, of course.

However, there are other factors that increase the price of the translation, such as the specialisation of the text, which can be charged at higher rates when the texts are scientific, financial, legal, technical or medical, for example. Normally a general text is charged at a lower rate than a specialised text.

In addition, a professional translator may apply surcharges due to the urgency of the document, for example, if he/she has to work on a weekend in order to meet the requested deadline.

Similarly, surcharges may be applied depending on the form of delivery, the presentation requested and modifications or corrections to the initially translated document.

In any case, all translators or agencies have a minimum rate.

Frequently Asked Questions

In Spain, the Sworn Translator is not required to produce the translation from the original. The translator is only responsible for the faithfulness and accuracy of the translation of the text requested.

Provided, of course, that the copy is of good quality, so that it can be read clearly in its entirety, without smudging, darkening or shading.

In Spain, you can find in the updated lists of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation (https://www.exteriores.gob.es/es/ServiciosAlCiudadano/Paginas/Traductores-Interpretes-Jurados.aspx), all the translators accredited in Spain to carry out sworn translations.

The Hague Apostille is a simplified method of certifying the authenticity of official documents for international recognition. On a square sheet or sticker that is added to the original document. In most cases the Apostille must also be translated.

You can pay for your translations either by bizum or by bank transfer to the account number indicated in the quote. As a general rule, as of the date of receipt of the proof of payment (you must send it by email), work on the translation of a document will not begin. Once the payment has been received, provided that there are more than three days between the date of receipt of the payment and the requested delivery date of the translation, you will receive the translation in due time and form, by email and, if necessary, by ordinary registered post with acknowledgement of receipt.

Any translation that exceeds 250 words, and which must be completed within three calendar days or less, shall be considered URGENT.
